Annie Boyd was a Salvation Army Officer and when she signed the suffrage petition she was living in Great King St, Dunedin working at the Salvation Army Home in Dunedin.

In 1894 'Mrs Holdaway and guitar-playing Captain Annie Boyd were the first women officers to visit Tauranga and Katikati'.

The following year 'Anniversary and Harvest Festival celebrations were conducted at Thames a week or so later by Mrs Holdaway, accompanied by Captain Boyd and Lieutenant Tamatea, who shone with their guitar and banjo and held the crowd with music and song.'
