Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Barbara Logan was born about 1854 in Glasgow, Scotland – the daughter of Malcolm Logan, a store keeper, and Barbara Barr.

She married James Morrison, an engineer, on 31 December 1872 in Glasgow.

They had two daughters, one who died in infancy, before they emigrated to Otago in 1875 on the Oamaru accompanied by Barbara’s 12-year-old brother David.

They had, at least, five further children after their arrival and when Barbara signed the suffrage petition the family was living in Waverley St, South Dunedin.

James died in 1929, he is buried with their son Malcolm in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.

Four years later Barbara sold her home and contents, presumably to live with her daughter Mary in Christchurch.

She died at her daughter’s home in Fendalton on 7 August 1939 - she is buried in the Bromley Cemetery, Christchurch.
