Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Catherine Aitken was born on 17 October 1865 in Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Scotland – the daughter of John Aitken, a seaman, and Helen Graham. (See 151 Ellen Aitken)

Her father appears to have died in the late 1860s and in 1874 Catherine emigrated to Otago on the Invercargill with her widowed mother and two siblings.

They settled in Dunedin and when Catherine signed the suffrage petition were living in Clyde St.

She did not marry and she died on 22 November 1923 and is buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
