Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Caroline Grant Hopkinson was born in New Zealand in 1854 – the daughter of Charles Hopkinson and Isabella Grant.
Caroline married Thomas Burfield Galland in 1881; they had no children. The marriage did not appear to last as Caroline had reverted to her maiden name by the time she signed the suffrage petition.
She was, at this time, living in Bradshaw St, South Dunedin with her mother and sister Ellen, and was working as a tailoress.
Caroline died on 7 October 1921 in Dunedin. She is buried in the Northern Cemetery, Dunedin with her mother and brother.
