Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Catherine Jamieson was born about 1854 in the Shetland Islands – the daughter of Magnus Jamieson, a farmer, and Elspeth Henry.

After the death of her parents she emigrated to Otago in 1876 on the Timaru with her three sisters and two brothers – they settled in Dunedin.

Catherine married Thomas McAhan, a labourer, on 5 August 1879 in the Green Island parish and they had 11 children.

When Catherine signed the suffrage petition the family were living at Burnside, near Dunedin.

Thomas died in 1928 and Catherine died on 30 March 1935, they are buried together in the Green Island Cemetery.
