Sarah Ann/Cissie  Bunnett was born in Norfolk, England in 1842 – the daughter of Simon John Bunnett, a painter and glazier, and Rosetta Bell.

Her father died in 1867 and shortly after the family moved to Skipton, Yorkshire.

Sarah married George Mantell, a hairdresser, in Bradford in 1872 and they had a daughter before emigrating to Otago in 1874 on the Jessie Readman.

They had a further two children in New Zealand & when Sarah signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Brown St, Dunedin.

George died suddenly at his home in 1896, at the age of 45 and Sarah died on 10 November 1909, they are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
