Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Elizabeth Barclay was born on 6 August 1866 in the Falkland Islands – the daughter of David Barclay, a shepherd, and Janet Green. (See 66 J Barclay)

Her family returned to Britain in 1868 before sailing for New Zealand about 1870.

The family settled in Dunedin and when Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition they were living in Pine Hill Terrace.

She married Sydney James Wynne, a bookmaker, on 2 July 1895 at St Peter’s Church, Caversham and they had seven children.

Sydney died in 1920 and Elizabeth died on 21 January 1940, they are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
