Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Helen/Ellen Anderson was born on 19 August 1855 in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland - the daughter of Millar Anderson, a baker, and Helen Stewart. (See 79 H Anderson)

Helen emigrated to Otago in 1856 on the Southern Cross with her family and they settled in Dunedin.

She married James Caradus, a compositor, in 1875 and they had seven children, two who died in infancy.

When Helen signed the suffrage petition the family were living in William St, Dunedin.

James died at their home in 1916 and Helen died on 27 April 1939, they are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
