Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Evelyn (Eveline) Masson was born in 1861 in Victoria, Australia, the daughter of William Masson, a contractor, and Mary Wilson.

Evelyn married Robert Joseph Everard at her father’s house in Melbourne, Victoria on 21 July 1881. They had one son, George, in 1882.

In 1884, Evelyn and her son sailed for Otago on the Ringarooma. It does not appear that Robert came with her - he died in Victoria in 1886.

Evelyn married Thomas Edwin Dick, a printer, on 28 November 1887 at her sister’s house in Royal Tce, Dunedin.

They had four children and when she signed the suffrage petition Evelyn’s family were living in York Place, Dunedin.

In December 1910 Evelyn and Thomas’ 17-year-old son died while swimming in Lake Wakatipu while the family was on holiday in Queenstown.

In August the following year Thomas died.

At some point before 1916, it is likely Evelyn moved to Whanganui, as all three of her daughters were married there. She died on 3 July 1952 and is buried in the Aramoho Cemetery, Wanganui.
