Emily Louisa Freeman was born in 1868 in New Zealand – the daughter of Thomas Freeman, a labourer, and Mary Shays. (See 33 Mrs Freeman)
When Emily signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Duncan St, North East Valley, Dunedin working as a laundress.
She married Robert McArthur, a seaman, in 1899 – they had no children but did adopt a son later in life.
Robert died in 1934 and Emily died on 11 November 1944, they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
