Elizabeth Mary Jenkins was born in 1870 in New Zealand – the daughter of John Perriam Jenkins, a mariner, and Elizabeth Melville Hay.

Elizabeth married Sinclair Peden, a grocer, in 1900, and they had three children.

Sinclair died of appendicitis in 1916 and Elizabeth died on 1 December 1951 at Cromwell. They are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
