Elizabeth Reid was the eldest daughter of Joseph Reid and grew up in Dunedin. She married James Gibbons in Wellington in 1868 and had at least three daughters. She was visiting or residing in Auckland with the oldest, Josephine (born 1870), when she signed the suffrage petition. Both Elizabeth and Josephine are signatories.
