Elizabeth Kennard (nee Wallace) was born in 1833. She married William Kennard on 19 November 1860 at Goodwood. William Kennard, born in Kent 23 May 1836, was the son of Otago's earliest Paheka settlers, William and Maria Kennard. William (jnr) was nearly 4 years old when his family arrived on the Magnet, along with the Carey family, at Waikouaiti in April 1840. William's brother, Thomas Baker Kennard was "The First White Boy Born in Otago" (book by J Herries Beattie, published by AH & AW Reed, 1939)

Elizabeth and William had seven children. Several of their daughters also signed the Suffrage Petition - Elizabeth Jean Telfer, Alice Cousins and Sarah Kennard (Sarah's name is signed in the same ink and the same handwriting as her mother, Elizabeth).

The family moved to Waimate in 1877 where they established several market gardens - William was the first to grow raspberries in the district. The house William and Elizabeth built, which was later occupied by their daughter Sarah and her husband Richard Prue, was still standing in Opie St Waimate in the 1990s.

Elizabeth died in 1902.
