Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Elizabeth/Lizzie McIlwain was born about 1863 in Ireland.

She emigrated to New Zealand about 1881 and she married Peter McGregor in on 8 January 1884 in Dunedin.

They had five children and when Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Braemar St, South Dunedin and Peter was working as a railway porter.

In 1896 they moved to Port Chalmers then to Palmerston and to East Taieri.

Peter died in Dunedin Hospital in 1909 and Elizabeth died on 4 September 1936 at her home in Dunedin.

They are buried with their daughter in the Southern Cemetery.
