Elizabeth Fairley was born on 21 January 1838 in Edinburgh, Scotland – the daughter of George Fairley, a licenced victualler, and Elizabeth Chalmers.
She emigrated to Otago with her two sisters and brother in 1858 on the Three Bells.
Elizabeth married William John Roberts, a customs officer, on 28 March 1860 in Dunedin.
They had a daughter the following year (See 57 E C Head).
William died in 1867 and when Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition she was living in Smith St, Caversham.
She died on 29 December 1905 and is buried in the Southern Cemetery with William.
