Biographical information provided by Briar Barry for the He Tohu exhibition:

Elizabeth Sarah Harris married Reverend Joseph Newman Buttle in 1886. They had a daughter and a son. Their son, Harris Newman Buttle was killed at the Somme during the First World War. Due to her husband’s job the family moved around a lot. Elizabeth died on 22 October 1943 and is buried at Linwood Cemetery in Canterbury.

Elizabeth Sarah Buttle nee Harris (1865-1943). Wife of Wesleyan minister Rev J Newman Buttle (1850-1914) who was stationed at Sydenham Wesleyan Circuit, Christchurch.
