Also signed as 51 Elizabeth Selby
Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Elizabeth Selby was born in 1862 in Greenwich, London – the daughter of Isaac Selby, a carpenter, and Isabella Gilholm. (See 49 Isabella Selby)
In 1868 Elizabeth emigrated to Otago with her family on the Schleswig Bride and they settled in Dunedin.
When she signed the suffrage petition Elizabeth was living in Castle Street with her family working as a music teacher, she advertised as a teacher 'of Pianoforte and Harmony'.
Elizabeth did not marry and after her mother’s death in 1899 she looked after her father until his death in 1909.
He left the bulk of his estate to her in recognition of the help she had given him.
Elizabeth died on 25 July 1943 and she is buried with her parents in the Northern Cemetery.
