Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Ellen Burrows was born in 1869 in New Zealand – the daughter of Henry Burrows and Elizabeth. Her sisters Lizzie and Bertha also signed the petition.
The Burrows family lived in Bannockburn and Arrowtown while Henry worked as a gold miner, before they came to Dunedin about 1885 where Henry worked as a shoemaker.
Ellen did not marry, and at the end of her life she was living with her sister Lizzie in Carroll St, Dunedin.
She died in Dunedin on 17 February 1957 and is buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
