Emily Maria Berry was born in 1865 in New Zealand, the daughter of Daniel Berry and Maria.
Emily married Sydney Charles Brown, a bootmaker, in 1884. They had two daughters.
When she signed the suffrage petition, Emily was living in Moray Place, Dunedin.
Emily died on 4 January 1909 and Sydney died in 1928. They are buried together in the Southern Cemetery, Dunedin.
