Emily Rosalee Morgan (nee West) was born in Athlone, Ireland on 8 January, 1870.

In September 1888, she married Edward Morgan of Pukekohe in Inglewood, Taranaki, and had her first child, Ruby Claudine Morgan, a year later. Sadly, Ruby died that same year, and Emily did not have another child until 1894. From then, she went on to have five more children, all of who were registered as being born in Auckland. One child, Nita Eugenie Morgan, was registered as being born in Drury in 1905.

When she signed the petition in 1893, Emily noted that she lived in Papakura Valley, and her husband was registered on the 1896 Electoral Roll as being a farmer residing in Brookby. From 1911 onwards, they resided in Grey Street and Mays Road in Onehunga.
