Emma Hopkins (nee Bond) was born around 1859 in Hinckley, Leicestershire, England. She was the seventh of 10 children born to Elizabeth Lee and Enoch Bond. Emma spent most of her adult life in Auckland, where she married her husband John Henry Hopkins (1862-1957) in 1889. Together, they had 5 children: Evelyn Gladys (1890-1975), John Henry (1896-1981), Stanley Osborne (1899-1986), Enoch (1901-1978), and Eva May (1903-1996). Emma passed away 27 December 1951 at the age of 92. She is buried at Purewa cemetery and the inscription on her headstone reads 'He giveth his beloved sleep'.
