Emma Jane Atwill was born on 4 March 1871 in Tavistock, Devon, England to Edwin John Atwill and Elizabeth Ann Goldsworthy.

Emma and her parents arrived in Timaru, on 29 August 1874 on the ship St Lawrence, and later moved to Waimate.

In 1898 Emma married Charles Hugh Eade, son of Charles Eade and Alice Tregeagle.

Emma and Charles had seven children; Alice Goldsworthy Eade born 1899, Thomas Tregagle born 1900, Doris Elizabeth Ann Eade born 1901, Gwendoline Bessie Eade born 1902, Charles Hugh Samuel Eade born 1904, Rita Emma Eade born 1905 and Marjory Lucy Eade born 1907.

The Waitaki Electoral Rolls for 1911 and 1919 record Emma and Charles living in Park Road, Waimate. Charles’ occupation was Carter. From 1928 they were living in Naylor Street, Waimate. Charles was a Labourer.

Charles predeceased Emma and died on 5 August 1944 age 75 years and is buried in the Waimate Old cemetery, Methodist section, Plot 000134

Emma died on 29 May 1950 age 79 years and is buried in the Waimate Old cemetery, Methodist section, Plot 000137
