Biography contributed by Pam Rea.

Emma Sophie Abbott [nee Bigelow] was born about 1857 in the United States of America. Her father John Bigelow was one of a handful of people who started up the Ponsonby Baptist Church and Emma was organist there in 1886. She married John Charles Abbott [from Manchester England,] on 18 May 1887 at the Primitive Methodist Church in Franklin Rd Ponsonby. This couple produced at least one son, James, born about 1889 and one daughter, Edith about 1895. Both were born in New Zealand. It is not known when they moved to England but they were there with the children by 1901. I have no date or place of death for Emma Abbott or her husband.

She is the sister of Mary Edgar and Annie Bigelow, who also signed the suffrage petition.
