Emma Harding was born in England about 1820, she married James Wright, a carpenter, in Shropshire in 1853.

They had two children before they emigrated to Otago in 1857 on the Maori.

One more child was born in New Zealand.

The family settled in Dunedin and when Emma signed the suffrage petition they were living in Great King St.

James died at his residence 'Julian Cottage' Great King St in 1891 and Emma also died there on 10 January 1899.

They are buried with their daughters in the Northern Cemetery.
