Florence Dawson was born in 1864 in Truro, Cornwall, England – the daughter of James Dawson, a photographer, and Ellen Ashteed Eyre.
She emigrated to Canterbury with her family in 1873 on the Cardigan Castle.
When Florence signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Elm Row, Dunedin - Florence and her mother were both teachers of dancing.
She died on 10 September 1949 in Dunedin, she was cremated and her ashes scattered.
