Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Frances Beadle was born about 1833 in Surrey, England – the daughter of James Beadle and Frances.

Her brother James emigrated to Otago in 1858 and Frances followed him some time later. In 1878 Frances was living in Dunedin when she charged James with 'the wrongful detention of certain money' James was ordered to return the money and to pay £1 damages and costs.

When Frances signed the suffrage petition she was living in Frederick St, Dunedin.

In 1898 James was charged with failing to provide Frances 'with adequate means of support', he was ordered to pay 4s 6d per week. In 1903 James sought to have the order cancelled or varied, the application was dismissed.

Frances died in Dunedin on 2 January 1918, she is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
