Ann Gawne was born about 1868 in New Zealand – the daughter of William Gawne, a sauce manufacturer, and Bridget Horan.
When Ann signed the suffrage petiton she was living with her parents in London St, Dunedin working as a tailoress.
She married Edward Ezra Houghton, a widower with one son, in 1901.
Ann died at on 20 November 1902 – she is buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
