Helen Boyd Graham was born on 5 February 1851 in Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Scotland – the daughter of William Graham and Helen Graham. (See 151 Ellen Aitken)
She emigrated to Otago in 1874 on the Invercargill with her widowed mother and two siblings.
Helen married William Brown, a railway worker, in 1876 and they had seven children, two who died in infancy.
When Helen signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Clyde Avenue, Mornington, Dunedin.
She died at her home on 16 October 1917, William died in 1930 and they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
