Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Hannah Scott was born about 1844 in the Shetland Islands – the daughter of Laurence Scott, a mason, and Helen Henry.
She appears to have been creative with her age as when she died her age was given as 10 years younger.
She emigrated to New Zealand in the mid 1870s and she married Robert Gordon, an engine driver, on 5 October 1876 in Dunedin.
They had eight children, one who died in infancy, and when Hannah signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Braemar St, South Dunedin.
Hannah died at her home on 6 June 1908 and Robert died at their daughter’s home in 1937.
They are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
