Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Hannah Carpenter was born about 1822 in Greenwich, Kent. In 1844 she married John Thomas Marshall, a blacksmith.

They had six children before John died in 1861.

Two of Hannah’s sons emigrated to Otago in 1875 and her daughter followed in about 1880. Hannah may have arrived then also.

Hannah died on 14 April 1901. She is buried in the Southern Cemetery with her daughter and son-in-law.
