Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Isabella Middleton Robertson was born on 13 November 1856 – the daughter of John Moncrieff Robertson, a solicitor, and Sophia Agnes.

Isabella travelled to Australia and married Andrew Given on 20 December 1883 in Sydney. In January 1844 the couple sailed from Melbourne to Otago on the Manapouri. They had five children and lived at 'Moncrieff House' in Maitland St, Dunedin.

Andrew worked as an agent for a paper making company and later owned a paper and stationery company. Andrew tried to sell his business in 1901 but was unsuccessful and was put in liquidation in 1902. He continued trading and again tried to sell in 1905.

Their son was killed on the Somme in the First World War. Isabella died at Maitland St on 5 March 1919 and Andrew died in 1927. They are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
