Janet/Jessie Shaw Marshall was born in 1865 in New Zealand – the daughter of James Marshall, a storekeeper, and Janet Hunter.
Her father died in 1873 and when Janet signed the suffrage petition she was living with her mother in York Place, Dunedin working as a saleswoman.
She died on 5 May 1912 and is buried with her mother in the Northern Cemetery.
