Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Isabel Baird – also spelled as Beard – was born in Melbourne, Australia about 1863 – the daughter of William Beard.

She came to New Zealand about 1866 and married Martin Boyle, a butcher, on 2 January 1882 in Dunedin.

They had four children and when Isabel signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Clyde Street.

She died at her home on 31 March 1928 and Martin died in 1938, they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
