Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.
Isabella Ritchie Wilson was born about 1856 in New Zealand – the daughter of Robert Wilson, a baker, and Jean Dick.
She married James Travers Higgins, an upholsterer, in 1879 and they had 12 children, one who died in infancy.
When Isabella signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Broughton St, Roslyn in Dunedin.
They later moved to Christchurch where Isabella died on 3 July 1923 and James died in 1931 – they are buried together in the Bromley Cemetery.
