Jane Cunningham was born about 1840 in Scotland.
She came to New Zealand where she married builder Alexander Bain on 28 October1869 in Dunedin.
They lived, at first, in Balclutha & they had five children.
In 1882 the family moved to Dunedin where Alexander was the contractor for several large buildings including the Colonial Mutual Life Buildings at the corner of Princes and High Streets. When Jane signed the suffrage petition they were living in Russell Street.
Alexander died in 1918 and Jane died on 20 September 1924 – they are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
