Jeannie Lyall Beck was born in New Zealand in 1872 – the daughter of Albert James Beck and Jane Hall Murray. Her younger sister, Mary Jane, also signed the petition.

Jeannie was gazetted as a registered nurse in Christchurch in 1902, and in 1905 was working as an assistant matron at Christchurch Hospital. She was gazetted as a midwife in 1916.

She served on the committee of the New Zealand Nurses Memorial Fund (for the financial relief of nurses in distress occasioned by sickness, old age, accident or other misfortune) for at least 15 years.

Jeanie died in Christchurch on 16 May 1953.
