Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Jane Lauder was born on 11 February 1856 in Edinburgh, Scotland – the daughter of Francis Lauder, a maltman, and Jane Kidd. (See 117 Jane Kidd)

She married Alexander Adam, a carpenter, in 1882 and they had three children, one who died in infancy, before the family emigrated to Otago in 1890 on the Langstone accompanied by Janes’s mother.

They settled in Dunedin and had two more children – when Jane signed the suffrage petition they were living in Belleknowes.

Jane died on 3 January 1932 at her daughter’s home and Alexander died in 1935 – they are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
