Jane Cuthbertson Callender was born in New Zealand in 1867 – the daughter of Alexander Callendar, a farmer, and Barbara Graham Law. (See 162 Mrs A Callander)
When Jane signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family at Scroggs Hill overlooking the Taieri Plain, south of Dunedin.
She married Alfred Stevenson, a labourer, in 1908 – they had no children.
Alfred died in 1942 and Jane died on 13 September 1954, they are both buried in the East Taieri Cemetery.
