Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Jane was born about 1838 in Scotland and she was the third wife of John Hill, who arrived in Otago in 1848 on the Blundell.
She married John on 8 May 1879 and had been married previously to a Mr Shepherd. Jane does not appear to have had any children.
They lived at Broad Bay on the Otago Peninsula where Jane signed the suffrage petition.
John died suddenly in 1893, collapsing while Jane 'had gone to church in the evening as usual'.
Jane remained living at Broad Bay where she died on 21 April 1905, they are buried together in the Broad Bay Cemetery.
