Jane Morrison was born about 1842.

She married James McLauchlan in 1860 in Victoria, Australia and they had two daughters, one who died aged two years.

The family sailed for New Zealand about 1863 where their next eight children were born.

James operated at quarry at Greenhills near Bluff - he died in 1884.

When Jane signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Bluff – she died at her home on 19 January 1912 and is buried with James in the family grave in the Bluff Cemetery.

Her obituary said she 'was greatly esteemed by all who knew her, and was noted for her hospitable and kindly nature.'
