Jane/Janet was born about 1822 in Ireland, she married John Riddel/Riddle, a sawyer about 1850.
They had one son and lived in Glasgow, then Renfrewshire, in Scotland.
They emigrated to Otago in 1875 on the Nelson with their widowed son and his two children.
When Janet signed the suffrage petition she was living with her husband in Smith St, Caversham, Dunedin.
John died in August 1910 and Mary died on 11 September 1910, the same day as their son Thomas.
They are all buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
