Jane/Jeanie McGregor Barker was born in 1869 in New Zealand – the daughter of William Barker, a contractor, and Elizabeth McGregor. (See 341 E Mc Barker)
When Jeanie signed the suffrage petition she was living with her parents in Bluff.
She married John Henderson Reed, a clerk and merchant, in 1894 and they had seven children.
The family moved to Gore in 1906 and six years later they shifted to Invercargill.
Jane died at her home in Invercargill on 7 November 1938 and John died in 1943 – they are buried in the family grave in the Invercargill Eastern Cemetery.
