Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Anne Batchelor was born about 1846 in Warwickshire, England – the daughter of Thomas Batchelor, an agricultural labourer, and Mary.

She married Emanuel Jeffs, a labourer, in Stratford on Avon in 1861 and they had five children, one who died in infancy.

In 1874 the family emigrated to Canterbury on the Ballochmyle – they settled at Ashburton where Anne signed the suffrage petition.

She died in August 1898 in Ashburton, Emanuel re-married in 1900 and he died in 1925 in Auckland, they are both buried in the Ashburton Cemetery.
