Note: I believe that this entry is for Janet Henderson Allan the sister of Elizabeth who signed the petition on the line above. (See 137 Elizabeth Crawford)
Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Janet/Jessie Henderson Allan was born about 1871 in New Zealand – the daughter of Robert Allan, a farmer, and Jane Miller.
She grew up in Merton, north of Dunedin and when she signed the suffrage petition she was staying at Ratanui near Owaka.
She married James Reid Kay, a grocer on 30 November 1899 in the Merton Parish and they had seven children, one who died in infancy.
They lived in Dunedin where James died in March 1934 and Janet died later that year on 9 December.
They are buried together in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
