Mary Catherine/Katherine Reid was born in 1869 in New Zealand, the daughter of William and Mary Reid.
She married Alexander Dalziel Downes, a brass-finisher, in 1891. They had ten children, two of who died young.
When she signed the suffrage petition, Katherine was living with her family in Clarendon St, Dunedin.
Alexander died in 1950 and Katherine died on 7 June 1955. They are buried together in the Northern Cemetery, Dunedin.
