Kate O’Connell was born about 1862 in Ireland, she emigrated to New Zealand and married William Thomas Waldren, a cab proprietor, in 1878.

They had seven children, two of who died in infancy.

The family lived, at first, in Timaru before moving to Dunedin.

When Kate signed the suffrage petition they were living in Church St, Roslyn.

Kate died on 18 July 1920 and William died in 1930, they are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
