Lydia Farmnsworth was born about 1852 in England.
She married Benjamin Shutt in 1874 and they had two daughters before they emigrated to Otago in 1879 on the Taranaki.
They settled in Dunedin where Benjamin worked as a labourer and they had a further seven children.
When Lydia signed the suffrage petition they were living in Rockyside, Caversham.
They later moved to Purakauiti in the Catlins.
Benjamin died in Dunedin in 1918 and Lydia died on 16 February 1928 at her son’s home, also in Dunedin – they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
