Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Louisa Uren was born in 1865 in Victoria, Australia – the daughter of John Ellis Uren and Jane Susannah Walker.

She came to New Zealand with her family in the early 1870s and she married George Samuel Baker, a painter, in Dunedin on 9 May 1884.

They had three children and when Louisa signed the suffrage petition they were living in East Gore.

They later moved to Christchurch where Louisa died on 10 October 1897 – she is buried with her parents in the Linwood Cemetery.

George re-married in 1901, he died in 1936 and is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery, Dunedin.
