Biographical information provided by Briar Barry for the He Tohu exhibition:

Louisa Haberfield was born 6 September 1870 in London, England. She was the daughter of David and Elmira (née Flatt) who immigrated to Christchurch aboard the Rakaia arriving on 25 April 1874. Her father died just 4 years after arriving in New Zealand. Sir John Kerle Haberfield, Lord Mayor of Bristol, was her father’s uncle.

Louisa worked as a tailoress, a profession she must have learned from her mother. In 1900 she married Truman Banks Jones a haulage contractor. He died on 10 February 1938 while Louisa passed away on 23 Mar 1956. They lived at 20 Ward Street, Addington, Christchurch.
