Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Louise Clark was born about 1862 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia – the daughter of Francis Martin Clark, a clerk, and Harriet Prothero Taylor.

Louise married Frederick Herbert Barley, a commercial traveller, in New Zealand in 1890. They had five daughters.

When Louise signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Eglington Rd, Mornington, Dunedin.

In the 1900s the family moved to Oamaru, later moving back to Dunedin.

Frederick died in Dunedin in 1923 and Louise died on 23 December 1945. They are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
